Grant County, WA

In this blog's recognition of Washington's 39 counties, each of the next 39 posts on Commoner will be named in honor of a county, in alphabetical order starting with Adams. The county that is recognized on a particular day does not necessarily correlate with the particular topic chosen for that day other than in the general sense.

Ralph Nader has written a great essay about the weakness of the Democratic Party, their kowtowing to the Republican Party, and their connivance with the corporate powers to the detriment of the good of the country and the working masses: see comments section, further below, to read this article in three separate parts.  We are taking advantage of the Fair Use Doctrine in Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code) to publicize this essay.

If possible, please, consider contributing to campaign: make selections of how you want to donate, or send check or money order to Mark Greene for Lieutenant Governor Comm., P.O. Box 612, Bellevue, WA 98009. Also, Mark is depending on supporters to spread the word about the campaign to get around the media bias regarding non-establishment campaigns. Thank you! Mark is probably the only politician in Washington that had the temerity to keep the 2004 …

GLAD TO HAVE THE ENDORSEMENT OF DARCY BURNER

Although, my support for Ms. Burner was tentative in her past campaigns, I am now fully on board with her candidacy for Congress in the 1st Congressional District.  She is a dedicated worker in politics, has gotten plenty of experience through her campaigns and by working as a political director in Washington, D.C., and I believe that she is very sincere about economic progressivism and the general non-interventionism and non-imperialism in foreign policy that she espouses.  For this reason, generally speaking, I am glad that we endorse each other in our respective campaigns and have many similar positions, …

With the qualification that this blog is supporting neither Mr. Obama or Mr. Romney for president, it's quite troubling to know that Romney is surrounding himself with pretty much the same imperialists who shaped George W. Bush's foreign policies and interventionism, such as John Bolton, who given the chance, would effectively overturn the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (though a weak treaty that's hardly enforced, it's the world's last best chance to control and possibly dismantle all nuclear weapons), and Robert Kagan, a neoconservative "scholar."  We don't need more advisers and officials in or out of the govern…

MINUSCULE COMPASSION

This blog is neither endorsing Mitt Romney or Barack Obama for president in 2012, but it's interesting that one of Obama's campaign commercials suggests that the president has compassion for the unemployed, although, his Treasury Department, specifically the I.R.S., is on a campaign of threatening property takeovers as well as putting property levies on the unemployed who get behind on their unemployment insurance taxes, which really shouldn't be taxed at all.  In a nation where billionaires and millionaires get tax deductions for vacation homes, among many other types of ridiculous tax deductions for the rich, Uncle S…

MORE LIKE INCUMBENT/ESTABLISHMENT PROTECTION THAN WORRY ABOUT THE BUDGET

Ironically, even the incumbent Washington Supreme Court Justice, Steven Gonzalez, reportedly is not happy that Washington State is not publishing a primary voters' guide that includes candidates for office, if any, even though this decision hurts the election chances of challengers more than incumbents, at least in races besides his.  The ostensible reason that Washington is not publishing a guide is money, but that is a lousy excuse for a State of the Uniion with a multi-billion-dollar budget not to make elections one of the highest priorities.  Of course, it's a lie tha…
