Repeal Law called "Gramm, Leach, Bliley"
The so-called Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, i.e., "Gramm, Leach, Bliley," effectively repealed the Depression-era Glass-Steagall Act which separated commercial banking from investment business. "Gramm, Leach, Bliley" has directly led to the economic crisis that our nation faces today. Senators Maria Cantwell - WA and John McCain - AZ (believe it or not) are among those senators and congresspersons that are rightfully trying to restore "Glass-Steagall" as the very critical financial downturn of the last several months has shown that the banks need re-regulating. The Obama administration, however, is resistant to this progressive change; of course, their economic divisions are run by the same "Wall Streeters" that got our nation into this crisis. Whoever would have thought that John McCain would turn out to be more progressive than Obama on a very important economic issue. Interesting, indeed.
